Love your blog, Borb.
Last trip (May 17 - June 1) I used whichever taxi arrived first & found that the others have lifted their game a lot - meters always on, pleasant & mostly silent drivers, clean cabs with good aircon. No problems at all.
My only unpleasant cab ride was in a Bluebird stuck in a traffic jam with a youngish driver who felt we were destined to be together. It was hilarious at first but after about 15 mins an absolute pain. He seemed to seriously expect me to leave my beloved husband of decades to marry him. This is not uncommon, though - seems to happen at least once per trip.
I LOATHE the driver mafia around 66, La L, Echo beach et al. Last year our Bluebird taxi driver was intimidated heavily by a group of transport thugs (the word is appropriate) at Echo Beach. Nasty experience for all concerned.
