Perhaps it depends on the phone. Many people have GPS's in Bali they work fine. My Nokia E71 has a built-in GPS with very detailed maps of Bali. Haven't yet taken it to Bali but can't think of any reason it shouldn't work. If you have a Nokia, Just make sure you update your maps before you leave and browse around Kuta in Map mode or whatever areas in bali you'll be headed whilst connected to the Internet on your phone to update any landmarks, roads etc.. I only use mine in offline mode in Australia and it's great. I'm looking forward to using in bali myself next trip as we're going cruising on motorbikes around the island
