I've had so many friends over the years stay there and swear by it, but our little party of five (2 + 3) would never stay again.

Breakfast was shocking. Poor single man on egg duty.. what a palava.. 80% of the guests for breakfast want eggs.. surely enough to warrant another egg man! Beds were uncomfortable (visible springs in one). No assistance in obtaining a cab back to the airport... (we gave up and flagged one down off the street and had them come in to collect us) No assistance in bags to reception (even though they saw us struggling, but were VERY quick to ask what room we had left so they could get our minibar [of two waters] quota to bill us when we finally reached downstairs with no assistance!

No 'welcome'. Our safe was locked at check in and we had to request THREE times for someone to sort it and even then they expected us to wait in the room (Not sure why, when they come to service the room while you're out?) Pool service (old pool) we were told to get our own drinks. Towels were grey and threadbare. Shower flooded the bathroom. Tried to overcharge us at check out. Internet connection was outrageously priced and didn't work. The remote control was broken (and no, didn't just need new batteries). Hairdryer in one room, and not the other (we had to move rooms on Day 2) When we moved rooms (we knew we had to move rooms at checkin) we weren't assisted, nor we were told what time we'd be moving. They asked us to wait in our room until they were ready but couldn't tell us WHEN that may be!

Room service closed at 10pm. No scales to weigh luggage at reception. For a hotel of this size and this amount of rooms, I'd've thought this would have been a bare minimum.

Security x 5 at the front entrance yet none at the beach entrance (What the?).

The lobby is the ugliest lobby I've ever seen.. talk about wooden laquer overkill.. where were the fresh flowers? What hideous dust collectors!

The gardens WERE stunning, the pools were beautiful, and those pavers that lead down each path were gorgeous and of course the location is great too.

Overall - the (lack of) service for me let it down. It could be beautiful.

I'm more than sure I'm not alone in my opinion, but clearly I must be the minority, for it's obviously extremely popular.

Each to their own. But I wouldn't be back.
