apologise on behalf of someone else. How does that help other than to patronise the staff under the assumption that they aren't professional enough to be able to handle a bit of rudeness. Hospitality staff are trained to deal with these situations and can usually handle it well. The hospitality industry, as do most other service industries, accept the occasional bout of rude behaviour as part and parcel of their business.
