It's as you say, many Vietnamese people are friendly, reserved, and not in your face.
A typical example was that little hug the waitress's often gave me in restaurant..
They'd come up quietly from behind where i sat at a table and just slip their arm around my shoulders, the delicate pressure of their palm on my upper arm giving me a light hug, and then they were gone as quickly as they came.
A friendly show of affection but in a very reserved and shy manner.
