just a JBR to say what we did.
shopped and lazed around the pool.
we stayed in seminyak at the sarinande, which was very good for 350,000rp. Having kids their pool with a low wall separating the deep part from a shallow wading part was very handy in keeping my fearless 3yr old from getting in over her head.
we budgeted $100 a day for all of us ( 2 adults, 3 yr old and 1 yr old) and i had nearly 900 000rps left over at the end.
even with 2 large bintangs and my parents joining for dinner, our average cost was 160 000 rps per meal. we did mainly eat in indonesian places though.
as for exploring, we only went to sanur and Denpasar, though i was very pleased with our driver. (Made from the helen Flavel foundation). he was very knowledgeable and showed us many sites in Denpasar we hadn't seen before and he left us to our own devices when we wanted to wander with only a phone call needed for him to pick us up from where ever we had ended up.
my two major items i wanted to do in bali was high tea at biku and a cooking class.
the High tea was amazing ( my mother, who has had high tea at browns in england, said it was as good as that). I took the advice i have received on this forum and made a reservation which ensured the table being set and everything organised. It is now on the "must do in bali" list for me and friends.
the cooking class was at Sate bali, This didn't include a market visit like others i had read about, but to be honest, with my experience that wasn't needed. The chef was very helpful and was quite happy to answer my questions about why you ad ingredients, what he hoped to gain from its texture and such ( i must of sounded like a iron chef judge). it was very informative and could be as hands on as you wanted it. ( I wanted to touch, smell, taste and do EVERYTHING). But the overall mark for the cooking class is that, since I have returned home, I have cooked at least 4 dishes that we learnt to prepare that day.
