I'm wondering how it makes a family feel when you buy bikes etc which would be out of that family's financial reach. If a family is poor enough that they can't afford to send their children to school, I would imagine that they are struggling financially in other ways also. It would be a hard thing to get your head around to not be able to pay your bills yet have your children riding around on expensive bikes. And yes, they might not be considered expensive in the grand scheme of things but to a destitute family it might be seen as a frivolous and unnecesary purchase where the money coulod be put to better use.
