From what I have heard that would make Sulawesi about the same size as Alice Springs.
Indonesia is the 6th or 7th biggest gold producer in the world. There may even be three mines on Sulawesi.
Kelian, Minahasa, Rinondoran Bay, North Lanut and Toka Tindung could posibly be good names to use for mine sites.
I would reckon that a web search using the key words mercury, poisoning, pollution, sulawesi, court case, Minamata Syndrome would bring up some interesting results.
