,movement & heat this is how they know there is suitable prey in the area. They bite some people over others due to the odor coming off your skin.
They are attracted to people who have high levels of steroids or cholesterol on their skin. Also if you have excess uric acid or lactic acid this will trigger them to bite you. Some people actually emit a masking agent that covers up these odor's so they will not be bitten as much as people who do not emit a masking agent.
