advise about what money to take

went to Bali 1st time last year, relied on advise from friend and only took $200 aud, the rest I had to get out of ATM's.Big problems with being at the ATM 3 times a day. This time I'm thinking of only taking cash with us, other than the obvious probs,losing/stolen etc does anybody think there is a prob with taking AUS.
