We tried to bring our friends out for Xmas 2009. We got there passports ($105.00 each). Applied for the visas but they we knocked back. It was a family we were trying to bring out and the husband wasn't working - he stays home to look after their 18 month old. They were told that as they didn't own a house and he didn't have a job that the Oz government thought they would probably overstay their visa. We had writtten a sponsor letter, given our bank statements and they had given all the info they thought they needed. All I can say is tell your friend to give as much info as possible with their visa application. If the visa is declined you have no right of appeal, you just have to apply again. At your own cost. Good luck with your friend. Our friends were devastated that they were knocked back. They wanted to spend Xmas in Australia and were only coming for 2 weeks.
