The pools are pretty much designed for the smaller and shallower one for the younger children and the olympic pool for older people...bit like myself. :-)
We had no children in our party, so we just had a nice casual dip in the larger of the two pools.
It doesn't seem to get too crowded and we were there around AFL finals time, so you can pretty well sit in the middle of both and still be able to keep an eye on your children.
The short cut, when you go out of the hotel, head straight ahead, follow the road around to the right and then take your first left. This is a very short walk and takes you straight onto Legian St. Great shops all around and plenty of taxis, or even a short stroll up to Bemo corner, Kuta sqaure and so on and so on. Really convenient location. You also have Poppies 1 a short stroll to the right and of course Poppies 2 on your left. There are always security guys sitting at the entrance of the foyer. They were very friendly and will point you in the right direction. As someone else mentioned the laundry directly opposite was excellent, absolutely beautiful ladies that remembered us every time we went in. There is an internet place opposite and to the left along with a small convience store. All the essentials. Great massage places on Poppies 1. I suggest you try them all, until you find the best one. Well that was certainly what I did at least. Also found a great place there that did false nails for me on the day that I left. Name of the place was Susie Q's.
Hope this helps.
