company or private you use. I've had snarky blue bird drivers, and wonderful private drivers, and vice versa. The only time I will ever be concerned particularly about using a BB is when I'm alone. At least having a taxi number gives you a small measure of protection, but like everything, it's the luck of the draw. Do not for one minute think that they HAVE to turn their meter on. They will get sacked if they don't,but I've had SEVERAL blue bird taxi drivers, coming off the beach road at Kuta, refuse. When telling a very good friend who drives a BB, he was astounded, then laughed, saying 'they must expect to make a fortune, to make it worth the risk!"
Every morning there is an inspection of all the BB taxis at the head office. Anyone with a defective meter isn't allowed to leave. Apparently its' one person who examines them all. Can you imagine the power that person wields?
