As far as the seats go, it is fairly clear during the purchase process that you need to pay an exxtra $2 each if you want them allocated. We were careful of this as we are flying with a 4 and 5 year old, who obviously can't sit alone (as much as I'd like them too!). So I don't think you can really complain about not reading the fine print. Sorry, but that really is your own fault - although I can understand you would have been stressed at the time.
Also completely unfair to cast dispersions on the Malaysian family (I think you said) that were seated together. Bordering on racism, really. And how exactly do you know they had not paid to be seated together - as most people do?
Not to mention the need to mention the "Caucasian"person at the baggage claim. You point is?
I'm not sure how much you might have traveled, but I have had lost baggage on Qantas, BA, Singapore, Thai and Royal Brunei. (Yes, unlucky, I know). Customer service in each case varies according to the individual serving you and the sort of day they are having (abuse they may have copped from other passengers, maybe) - not how much you paid for your ticket or how budget the airline is.
