We've stayed at Legian Beach hotel a few times, first in 1982, and last in 2007, and love it. The staff are friendly, the grounds beautiful, and location perfect.
No problems finding good restaurants in Legian, have a look at Bali Eats site. We walked north up the beach, about 10 minutes, past Padma & Melasti Beach Hotel to the "Double 6" restaurants.
It is a very buzzy area ,and all the restaurants are good, Zanzibar, Blue Ocean, and espescially Lanai, on the balcony. They have drummers and fire jugglers on Sunday nights on the beach in front of the restaurants.
Back along Jl. Melasti, along Jl Sahadewa (Garlic lane) and Jl. Padma there are plenty of restaurants too.
Indo National on Jl Padma is always good, and Posers on the corner of Jl Padma Utara is a good lunch spot to watch all the passers by.
Further up Jl Padma Utara, almost on the corner of Jl Arjuna ( Double 6) is Waroeng Asia, very small, but great Thai food.
The hotel has plenty of beach towels.
You'll love it
Cheers
