stayed there in March this year. Beautiful resort. Was well worth the bit extra it cost to stay there. Kata's much quieter than Patong, we stayed at both and wish we had booked the whole time at Kata Beach. Still everything there but not manic like the other end.
Did a great cooking school at Pum's Restaurant/Cooking School. Only 4 pax per class - it was really good.
Hired a scooter in Kata with our 3yr old (never done that in Bali) and also a car to attend my sister's wedding in Kata Noi but also used it to drive to the zoo and further down to the tip/coast to have a look. Would not have done either of those down near Patong tho.
We're definitely Bali people but there were certainly aspects of Phuket we liked, and many we didn't!, but would love to go to Kata Beach again sometime in the future. Enjoy!
