Just ask my daughter who locked a lighter in a cupboard away from the kids, just to find out to her horror the next morning that the lighter had ignited and smouldered all night, burning out the inside of the cupboard. No great damage, apart from a room full of soot, but I wouldn't like it to happen on a plane.
