We had already booked the March trip before we booked this one. This was a spur of the moment trip booked 3 weeks ago thanks to Air Asia advertising some cheap flights. To be honest, when we first got there I was wishing I hadnt already paid for March due to the surroundings. We felt we were in the middle of nowhere. In reality its not that far from Legian St and there are plenty of shops (Bintang Supermarket is great for any drinks and groceries you might need. We got a bag of ice to put in the freezer for drinks at the villa), money changers etc along this strip. We soon got used to it and although I would prefer nicer surroundings I think the price of the villa makes up for it. Its only a few minutes walk back to Jalan Nakula to get a taxi to Legian or Kuta for shopping if you wish. I will be happy to stay there again.

There really is nothing much around the villas, just a few laundries and some locals homes. Yes, they are very quiet....We heard the occasional dog barking, the odd scooter going by and sometimes the local kids playing in the lane.

You can arrange to have breakfast in the villa for US $3.50 I believe but we were happy to head out. It only took 5 to 10 minutes to get to Cafe Seminyak, which was great. We will be having breakfast there each day in March. We didnt walk to the beach but I guess it would only be about another 10 minutes to get there.

There were not any blackouts at the villa while we were there but walking along Legian Street near the memorial one night there were alot of shops in darkness, some had power due to generators as I believe the blackouts are a regular occurence.

Do you normally stay in hotels? It is an adjustment being on your own but didnt take long to get used to it. You just have to be a bit more organised with having mixers for drinks etc as you cant order room service or just pop over the road to a mini mart.
Housekeeping do come in every day and replace towels, tidy and make up beds.

One thing that I found annoying was that there wasnt a top sheet on the bed, only a doona and cover. Even though the bedrooms have aircon it was too hot to sleep with a doona and I like to have something over me while I sleep so we took the doona out and just used the cover. We explained this to housekeeping and they just made the bed up with the cover.

Ok I think I've rambled on enough lol hope this helps :)
