Most hotels will ask you for credit card details to secure the booking.
This is normal practice exactly the same as if you were paying a bill over the phone in OZ.

You can give them the card number, name on the card, the expirey date and the last three digits on the back of the card as a security for them that you are in possession of that card.

In most reputable hotels your card will not be charged until you arrive, but if you do not turn up they can charge you for one (1) nights accommodation.
Under no circumstances and I repeat under no circumstances do you give anyone ALL THE DETAILS ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD.

We always take cash and only use our credit cards as a backup or to pay accommodation.
