I'd be more inclined to buy the basic ticket and pay for any extras you might use - especially since I'm pretty sure that kids of all ages have to have a paid ticket. You can buy yourself a whole lot of extras once you get in there for the difference of US$50 per adult and US$40 per child.

I can't imagine you'd want two trips on the safari bus, once is plenty. You can buy tickets for extra animal encounters for Rp30K each - same with the fun park rides, which aren't that great for really little ones anyway - and the water park is included on the basic ticket. Elephant rides were pricey, but I can't see your little ones wanting to do that and the camel ride was pretty cheap - and didn't look that appealing to be honest. I never actually saw anyone riding the camels, either.

We had lunch at the Tsavo restaurant, and for 5 adults with a couple of soft drinks each cost us around Rp600 total - so 2 adults and 3 kids would cost similar or less.

Five basic tickets at US35 and then paying for any extras sounds like it would work out a bit cheaper to me.
