Tanah Lot is a beautiful place, I've been twice now.
The markets are quite cheap there - better than Kuta anyway so I would recommend going before sunset to do some shopping. Some lovely wood carvings, my boyfriend got an amazingly intricate dragon. As well as the usual clothes and things. Then head down to the grassy areas and there is some HUGE snakes there you can hold and have pictures with. We had a group of six last time and it took all of us to hold this one snake!
Then head down to the temple and walk across to get blessed. Its better to be there at low tide so you don't get wet but at a higher tide they have people helping you across, and sometimes its just more fun! I got wet all the way my thighs last time but you dry off fairly quickly.
Then make sure you go into the cave and touch the holy snake. just a little snake in a hole in the ground. Both the holy snake and the blessing at the temple require a donation, nothing major just whatever you have on you.
Then head up the stairs and grab a good seat for the sunset. The food is delicious and cheap and the drinks are good too. Get a seat close the edge so you can see the temple with the sun behind it. It is truly beautiful!
Have a wonderful time, Tanah Lot is one of my favourite places!!
