The extension braiding often done in bali does not use human hair and is very cheap to get done.
The human hair ones are either by glue (same as you get done over here) or metal bands. These are usually unbraided and obviously a lot more expensive but still a fraction of AU prices.
So really depends on what you are after.
I'm going in early December also and plan on getting them, so may end up being next to you in a salon!! ha ha
