Well I suppose I'm giving my age away but what the heck.
When a mate & I first visited Bali in 1971 the shops only went 100mtrs North of Bemo Corner. The "Pub" was also at Bemo Corner & a night at a Legian Losman ( Only 1 in Legian!! )cost $1.50AUD including Bali Coffee & bananas for breakfast.
Magic mushroom omelettes or fruit drinks were available everywhere. Most of the local ladies were topless. ( a few years later they graduated to bright purple bras )
The ex Governors Mansion in Singaragar was a hotel ( now a police station ) and tourists in Lavina were an oddity.
There was only one Losman at Kintamani and you had to order your evening meal the day before.
I have been back many times since 1971 ( a lot quicker getting there by plane than the sailing ships we used LOL )
