about 14 years ago, lol.
We'd organised for a driver to pick us up from the airport. We said we wanted to go to the Gedung Kirtya lontar library in Singaraja the next day.
He said that the company he worked for was very expensive and he'd take the day off and make it a private tour for a really cheap rate of AU $100 just for us. The car he drove was a/c, he spoke great English, and AU $100 seemed ok because hey, we didn't have a computer back then to be any the wiser about driver rates.
He swore us to secrecy and said a few times, " ïf you tell my boss, you kill me." Meaning he'd be sacked and have no income.
The next day his friend turned up in a battered old car, no a/c, and with very little English. He said the other driver hadn't been able to get the day off.
Other than the lontar library we went everywhere he wanted us to go. Lots of showrooms. Didn't buy a thing, out of our price-range.
Welcome to Bali, but read more than the Lonely Planet book before going there, LOL
