Foreigners cannot own land in Indonesia. Never have right from independence.
I also know people who claim to have 'freehold' or 'green title' land in Indonesia, but they actually don't own the land. If you look into it more closely, the land is owned by an Indonesian and the foreigner pays for the land and holds the certificate of title (which has the Indonesian's name on it). They also have a hold over the land being sold from under them.
But they don't "own" the land, freehold or otherwise, as we understand land ownership in Australia.
