If you haven't already got a package deal I would recommend that you look at some online accommodation sites. They have good deals on hotels at much better prices.
I would say that the Inna Kuta Beach is central for a good medium level hotel.
All the tours like bike riding, rafting etc..are around the 250,000 -350,000 range which is approx $40 and under AUS. Cruises are a bit more though.
You can organise day trips with drivers should be around 400,000. They can take you to Ubud, monkey forest etc...don't go with organised hotel tours they are much more expensive.
Meals are very cheap so are the bintangs
