Perhaps, as your friend was incapacitated you could have taken advice from on the BTF to consider pre-booking an authorised VIP service provider (Perhaps put off by those casting doubts on the legality of the service?)
I suggest that you only use the current authorised service providers if you want to get a smooth transition through the airport.
These are Murti or Hadi, and perhaps others that I don't know of in Bali, and also Creative Holidays in Australia.
If your travel agent is booking your package with Creative Holidays you can ask them to include this service.
