Hi

We travelled back from Bali last Tuesday and had 1 bottle (couldn't knock off 1 litre in 5 days) of 3/4 full alcohol in each of our suitcases (2 3/4 bottles betweeen 2 adults) when we first entered the terminal our bags were scanned and they asked us to open them. Firstly they took some batteries we had purchased (we have 4 year old so go through a lot of these)then they started on the alcohol saying we need to confiscate this as it is not sealed and may leak in your suitcase. Rubbish I told them but they still said it needed to taken. I said no way we are entitled to take it back to Australia, it doesn't need to be sealed as it is in our locked suitcases that is being check in. It is only if we were taking on plane that it would be a problem but it is in a locked suitcase being checked in. Very very sheepishly they put it back in our suitcase with a laugh and a smile and a sorry.( Ye I bet, sorry I stood up to you) A first time couple next to us gave up a $60 bottle of nearly full whisky but when they saw we got ours back they also said how come they can have theirs? They were then given their bottle back as well. I wasn't quite on the ball at the start of the conversation as it was my husbands suitcase they opened first but I did see another couple give us a bottle of vodka after the guard opened it and tipped it our saying look what happens when not sealed and the couple went ok and let it go. So stand your ground they are not entitled to take it IF you have it in your suitcase and plan to check it in as luggage. Different if you have as hand luggage that is not allowed
