I own villa segara in Bali and in all the times I or my guests have stayed there I have never had any guests complain about the heat or feeling to hot and I also havent had this problem with my own family.
I suppose being right on the harbour at Tanjung Benoa helps as we do get a beautiful breeze.
Most villas like mine usually have fans even in the outdoor living areas, I have even put one in the Bale but only to scare away any potential mossie's or pesky flies.
I also fine that the fans are enough and even though we do have airconds in all rooms I usually prefer just the fans.
Did the house where you stayed have a pool because having a pool helps to cool off at anytime during the day, especially after returning from those long shopping trips.
Once cooled fans are all you need.
Keep serching and ask the villa owners what they do supply in their villa as far as cooling goes.
