Didn't go to Indonesia but went to Sandakan, Malaysia.
Loved loved loved the Orang Utan rehab. It was a pleasure to be in a place where animals are not being exploited for tourist entertainment (holding, cuddling, animal shows etc) and that is genuine rehab to the wild.
The orang utans weren't viewed from afar as they are free to be anywhere they wish because it is their own territory so some were strolling along the walkway with us. Can't touch them though, and who would want to when orang utan have this marvellous chance to be free?
The feeding platform is pretty close-up.
Close to Sandakan there are other fantastic wild-life experiences. Turtle island where you can stay overnight and see giant turtles come into sure to bury their eggs. This is another big WOW experience.
Also stay on the Kinabatangan river and you'll see more proboscis monkeys than i thought it was possible to see. Some tourists also see wild elephant on the river ( we weren't as fortunate)
