We were given this tip from Customs in Perth relating to the fibre placemats which may have bugs within them.
Open the placemats and put them in a plastic bag. Buy a can of insect spray and spray the mats in the bag. Close the back and shake it, then open the bag and put the dead bugs in the bin. You might have more luck in bringing the placemats back.
