Last month in Bali went to Sate Bali in Seminyak (just before La Lucciola restaurant) for the Monday morning cooking class.
There where 11 people. Started at 9:30am finished at 1:30pm. We started by going thru the different herbs, spices and veges - we all sat around the large table prepared for cooking. Then onto some hands on chopping and grinding of the ingredients for the base pastes - those who wanted to joined in and took a turn.
We cooked spice paste for chicken and seafood, sambal matah (lemon grass sambal), pepes ikan (steamed marinated fish in banana leaf). tum ayam ( minced chicken in banana leaf), babi kecap(pork in sweet soya sauce), jukut mecantok ( vegetables with peanut sauce sometimes called Gado Gado), mie goreng ( fried noodles),sate lilit ( balinese sate lilit in lemon grass skewer) dadar (coconut pandan pancakes).

Following the cooking we all sat and devoured the best tasting yummy flavoured food we ate in Bali for the entire 2 weeks. Real cooking from scratch brings out the best taste and flavour.

The chef is I Nyoman Sudiyasa who is the former chef of Hyatt Resort Bali and Bali Intercontinental Resort. He was easy to understand with great english and comfortably sat with us to share the food at the end of the class and some conversation about his life in Bali and beyond.

The address is Jl Lasmana/Oberoi No. 22A Seminyak phone (0361)736734 and email satebali@yahoo.com

The cost was 350.000rp which is about A$40 -$45 depending on the exchange rate.

Our husbands thought it was one of our best outings in Bali and we all really enjoyed it.
