when a car travelling in the middle of the road sideswiped me.
The next morning the guy arrived with lawyer to extract money.
We went over the damage inflicted on his car which consisted of dents on both sides front and back and also on top of the bonnet.
I them suggested we should look at the damage to my car which was a small scrape around 1m long behind the back wheel, which coincided with a new scrape at the same height on his car.
He and the lawyer continued to claim that all the danage had been caused by me including scrapes that were well rusted. When I argued that it appeared that I would have had to have had driven a complete circle around his car and then up on the bonnet to do this damage they agreed that this was indeed the case.
The next claim was that I had damaged his suspension so we all took a ride to prove this. Absolutely nothing wrong and even they had to admit this.
I then cried STOP. The guy stopped and I pointed out to him and his lawyer that the car was in the exact middle of the road and this is why the accident had occurred as I couldn't get any further to the left.
To cut a long story short it was my fault and I had to pay 1 million in damages.
The moral of the story is that as visitors to this country we are granted the privilege of always being in the wrong in the event of an accident. Don't expect to ever receive a fair suck of the sav if things go wrong.
