We flew AA in April this year Perth-KL-Phuket. The service was fine, they do walk up and down the aisles the whole time with drinks/food. The hostesses were Malaysian on our flights and very lovely. As mentioned, the planes appear brand new.

However, I was a little disappointed in the changes of flight times with AA. When we booked our flight left KL at 3.30pm in the afternoon. This worked really well for us. However, only a couple of days before we left we got a message saying it had been changed to 8.30pm in the evening (and only some of our party did get this message). This was a pain, as the economy airport in KL does not really cater for 8 hour stopovers. The plane didn't leave until 9.30, so it was a long wait (although we did end up booking a day room at a hotel nearby). Most of our group have decided that they are perfectly fine to fly from Perth to one point, but their connections (which they hold no responsibility for) are a bit of a pain! We have booked them for Bali, as this will be no problem! But we will see if the flight time changes at all over the next 6 months :)
