I think you can be unlucky with sea lice. I've experienced them at Mawun, Sengiggi, and Gili Meno. Always when the water was quite warm during the wet season. And of course we have them here in Australia and I've been bitten many times when swimming at Rottnest.
At Mawun I got attacked and my husband didn't. As I sai, it is often down to luck.
