usually for that price you get a clean room (double/twin),linen changed daily ( sometimes you have to request it.) Generally you get a mosquito net / screen on windows .
Rarely do you get aircon for this price- I hate aircon anyway- the only time I have every been sick in nearly 30 years of travel in Indonesia is when i stayed in a place with aircon.had a cold by day 2 and felt rotten.
A fan moves the air around and there is less adaption to be made when going in and out.
Pools-yes a couple I have stayed at have had pools-generally not.Often though they have an arrangement with other accommodation to let guests swim there.
This type of accommodation doesn't often have a web presence. I usually turn up in an area and have a look around down the alleys (Gangs). You will usually find a whole lot of signs nailed on the corner and its a matter of trial and error. They are usually open to bargaining as they want their rooms full .
As I said it doesn't suit everyone and each to their own but it suits me. I just know that when people talk about budget prices and list places at $70 a night -that isn't budget to me
