You can do MUCH better for what you pay these days for a standard room at MBR. I'd suggest looking for places that are in the same area but not necessarily beach front. Standard rooms are right at the opposite end of the property to the beach anyway so it's a bit of a walk from your room to the beach. You can stay at one of the surrounding non-beachfront hotels for similar price, much better rooms and not much further to walk to the beach.

I've stayed in a standard room at MBR in the past, and it was only just worth the price back then of $40/night (for the room, not per person). It's gone up quite a bit since then and apparently the rooms have gone downhill.

And definitely no personal balcony, though there are communal balconies and sitting areas in the standard block.
