Hi, thanks for the follow up. I hesitated in stating bali doesn't have free education - i knew i shouldn't have! as i also know of village schools which are "free", but the child must have a uniform, writing materials, food money etc. which the family needs to provide (like you said). and in this way it is not 100% free which is the message i was trying to get across. Probably should have gone into more detail. yesterday was the 1st time i found this forum and not even sure if i am posting things in the right spot! and most excited to find replies and interest. Thanks for your info and clarification. I assist a young boy in Munti with money for uniform, books, school needs and also sacks of rice for the family to try and make it possible for him to continue to go to the local village school. He was keen to go to the Kuta private school, which some of his cousins attend, a sponsor from Aussie was found for him, but he then chose to stay in the village with his grandparents after all, which is great as this being his decision, it will be the best option for him in his circumstances. Unfortunately the quality of the education in this village is low, as well as the facilities, other than the pavillion, there are no facilities! and most times i walked past it, it was empty. Anyway, thanks for your info and from now on, if the situation arises, i will say there is free junior govt. schooling, but parents must pay the associated costs for the kids to participate? or something like that. best wishes, jan.
