Under the Volcano by Cameron Forbes. It is a fascinating look at history, politics, culture etc. I learned very much from this book. Also Bali Paradise Created by Adrian Vickers is good. If you just want a nice story with recipes try Fragrant Rice, Janet de Neefe; A Little Bit One O'Clock (can't remember author); My Hotel in Bali, ... Koke; The Painted Alphabet - Diana Darling; Bali Style - Rio Helmi (?) I have heaps of books about Bali - sorry I'm a little vague on the details - I'm at work and these are off the top of my head!
