My hubbie and three daughters have spent 3 xmas's in Bali. Very low key where we stay in Sanur. Last time we organised a xmas lunch on the beachfront. We invited our Balinese friends and bought decorations from oz to liven the table up. We had Babi guling, roast potates, chicken and salads. It never feels like the xmas you have in Oz but we are on holidays in Bali so that is a plus. We do pressies before we leave aust and buy 1 small gift for each other for Xmas day. I have never found anything to be closed shops etc. You will always get a merry xmas from the locals as they love to join in the spirit.
