You're right as we did, for many years.
We always purchased a package from the travel agent which included our accomodation. We felt obligated to sleep each night in the hotel which we had prepaid. We were in our comfort zone.
We dared to book online a few years ago.
It really can be a very 'risky' business or at least feel that way to book hotels online.
We first went for over night or 2 night trips to other locations, leaving our room vacant for the night, so if fact we paid for 2 rooms for a night or two.
We always spend nights in different locations these days and like to get a 'feel' for the other areas. We feel like our trip to Bali these days is made up of a number of holidays.
