Buying a DVD player

Want to buy one to use whilst in Bali. Is there a cheap brand that we can use and leave behind? Is there a brand that will work in both Bali and Aus? Prices?
Took one from Aus. last trip and left it behind, went to same shop to buy one for this trip and the guy told me they were no longer made to be able to change to work in Bali. Can't remember the name of the shop but it was one of the electronic chain stores - could have been Tandy.
