I took my husbands vodafone mobile last year. He wasnt on a plan - just a cheapie $59 phone. The sim cards we tried over there wouldnt work !!! Not sure why. Lucky we had my sisters old brick with us as well - it was fine. We spent maybe around $20 and it lasted the whole 2 weeks - a few of us calling home quite a few times for reasonable length chats. Very cheap but a little "dodgy' at times. You just had to persevere and keep trying.
