You can check whether your mobile phone is unlocked by trying someone else's sim card. If it works then your phone is unlocked. Just Google unlock mobile phone and you will find someone who can unlock it for you, just by sending them your details of phone, carrier, etc. I did this via a UK firm and it only cost about AUD$10.
