You can buy sim cards in Bali to put into your phone and you can get cheaper calls. (you get a new number with the sim card, obviously).

The only catch is, you need to ensure you have a phone which is "unlocked". There are ways to check on the phone itself, but I have NFI, so I took mine to telstra and asked them if it was/wasn't. Mine was unlocked. You can get it unlocked at your dealer for a fee.

The best sim cards at the moment in Bali are Mentari. Apparently some of the other cards you no longer get the cheap calls. With Mentari you dial 01016 before the 61 0x xxxxxxxx.

BTW, I do also have international roaming on my phone in case there's a hitch and I need to use it. A la 2008 when my bali sim (XL sim card) wouldn't send/accept sms messages.

Also I have read on here you can get your mobile unlocked in Bali, but i also have NFI where that is either.

Hope some of this helps.

Cheers

Lisa
