we have private health ins with them, the first few times we travelled after our son was born in '06 with a respiratory and heart condition. It cost more (I actually covered myself and son under this and the others had our regular cheaper on-line ins). They'd covered all his bills/treatment in hosp so knew his condition and I just found it easier. It's not to say even if you do that your insurer, whoever it is, would cover. I assume they would still weigh up whether it is worth the risk to them.
We may have been lucky in that they considered the risk with his condition would not be high. I now get ins without pre-exist as he's 3 and hasn't had and treatment/hospitalisation in the last
2 1/2yrs and his condition is not something that would deteriorate in a short time frame but rather over a few months and I would be aware of it.
If your child has ongoing treatment/oxygen etc.. it may be alot harder for you to sort out. Good luck with it.
