My husband and I have been to Bali 4 times before and never had any vaccinations but for this trip we are travelling with our 4 year old son for the first time and everything changes once you have children, so we have arranged to have the vaccinations.
We consulted our Doctor who recommended Hep A and Typhoid as they are both communicable through food and water. Re Malaria we are just going to take careful preventative/prophylactic measures. We have decided to all get vaccinated as I guess we were playing russian roulette every other time when traveling to 3rd world countries without the vaccination and now with a child cannot afford that risk. All it takes is someone with unclean hands preparing your meal and you could end up with Hep A or Typhoid. It is very easy to contract and I recently read a couple of Bali blogs about people coming down with Typhoid and it sounded positively horrendous so I think it is wise to get vaccinated for it as it is so easy to contract it and if you get the booster shots a few months later you have 10 years or more coverage. For the three of us it cost around $300.
