Bought a huge plastic jar from the DIY store and each year take a hand full of red or yellow or green or blue, depending on my mood. As bags are waiting in the check in queue they get a cable tie applied for no other reason that we can then see that someone has been into our bag and we may decide NOT to collect it. It's worth the risk. We get customs to cut off at each end. But at least I know what is in the bag is actually ours! We do it out and home!
NB Tip: Don't do them up completely so that a knife or scissors can be slipped in to cut them to remove.
