We went to the zoo on our second last trip. Enjoyed it but it wasnt huge and our main up close and personal experiences was with a monkey who wanted to hold my hand through the cage and some parrots you could have your photo taken with. These 2 bits were the highlight - i cant remember much else to be honest. But I think it depends what time of the day and what animals are out.
My mum went to safari park and said it was great. They loved that none of the animals were in cages. I believe prices have just gone up. We are about to stay there for 2 nights which I think will be a great way to check it out and a good experience. Apparently you can hear the lions from your bungalows at night and they watch you eat breakfast!
I also went to both elephant parks (Taro and another Balinese one). I prefered the one above Ubud - Taro. All in all, I think they are all worth going to. If not this trip - your next one.
