I don't know if this is useful information, but last year I was in Thailand and wanted to get prescription sunglasses. I just rang my optometrist from Thailand (I think was OPSM) and they gave me my prescription over the phone. There was no problems with this.
After all, it's your eyes...you are really just asking for medical information about your own body. I think it's very much your right to ask for this kind of information!
